I received a BFA from Indiana University in the mid-90s. My approach to Reiki and my work with clients are also influenced by 25+ years studying the Tao, Hatha yoga, and secular-based meditation practices. In November 2022, I completed a nine-month Mindfulness Master Class/Teacher Training with Michelle DuVal through The Mindful Center. In 2021, I received a certificate from the Community Justice and Mediation Center for their Basic Mediation and Restorative Justice Training ~ which also informs my approach to healing and all healing practices.

About Reiki and the Usui Shiki Ryoho System
ReikiAllianceLogoReiki–pronounced raykey–is usually translated as “universal life energy.” It is a gentle, light touch practice that encourages the physical body to drop into the parasympathetic nervous system, or “rest and digest” mode.

Receiving Reiki from a professional is like eating at a restaurant; receiving Reiki from a non-professional is like dining at someone else’s house; self-practice is preparing a simple, daily meal for oneself at home. Basic Reiki practice is easy to learn. The system I am trained in, Usui Shiki Ryoho, encourages longer training periods and multi-year apprenticeships when seeking Reiki mastery. Initiated masters can become members of an international community: The Reiki Alliance.

HomeImageReiki Sessions
Reiki sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.  The recipient is fully clothed, covered by a light blanket and supported by pillows. The practitioner’s hands are typically placed on the head, torso and back. Receiving Reiki is often deeply relaxing ~ but every session is different, and there is some mystery to the practice. Sometimes people notice physical sensations, or have strong emotional responses. Longer sessions allow more time for conversation before and after Reiki. Be aware that Reiki works best over a period of time; I strongly suggest at least four sessions over a 2-4 week period of time when first receiving Reiki. And I always encourage people to learn Reiki, if at all interested ~ it is easy to learn, and a tremendous gift to yourself. A First Degree Reiki class costs less than two 90-minute sessions ~ a wise investment!

Please note the following disclaimer applies to all Reiki sessions:

Disclaimer: Becky does not medically diagnose or prescribe treatment. Do not discontinue any medical or psychological treatment you may be receiving. Becky is happy to work in conjunction with your current physician and healing team, and recommends telling your health care providers that you receive Reiki.

Mindfulness Sessions
Mindfulness sessions are 60 minutes. This is a one-on-one mindfulness mini-class. We will discuss how mindfulness meditation might serve you, and which practices are best suited for your needs. We will always spend some amount of time meditating together in these sessions! After one mindfulness session, clients are also invited to join a regular meditation group.

Reiki and Cancer Support
Reiki is gentle and non-invasive. There are no contraindications, making it a unique resource for patients as they navigate the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of cancer treatment. Reiki can be restorative at any point in a patient’s journey—whether recently diagnosed, or many years in remission.

Two days a week I work at Cancer Support Community South Central Indiana, where participants can receive free Reiki sessions, and other support services. In 2021, 85% of participants who were experiencing pain going into a Reiki session reported a decrease in pain after the session. 95% of participants who indicated feelings of stress, reported a decrease in their stress.*
“I liken it to meditation–with an extra layer of warmth and well being.”
“I feel very relaxed and at ease after the sessions.”
“Very relaxing, very comforting.”
“Cancer can take our connection to our bodies away and this Reiki has helped me bring my connection back to my body in a healing way.”
