About Orange Flower Healing LLC
Hey there. I’m Becky Holtzman, and Orange Flower Healing is my professional Reiki practice, established in 2016 in Bloomington, Indiana. I am a Reiki Master, initiated in the Usui Shiki Ryoho system, and I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University in the mid-90s. After many years in New Mexico and a couple in Oregon, I moved back to B-town in 2015. My office is located on the square in downtown Bloomington, 205 N College Ave, Suite 611.
Prior to Orange Flower Healing, I worked mostly in arts administration, and publishing, and often with plants: at a native-plant nursery, as a gardener-for-hire, and with herbalists. Other important influences include study of the Tao, Hatha yoga, and secular-based meditation practices. I have an active (if not particularly public) art practice, as well.
Professional Reiki with an Experienced Practitioner
I was initiated as a Reiki Master in March 2019, following a multi-year apprenticeship with Reiki Master Shantika Bernard. Shantika was initiated as a Master in 1988, by Grand Master Phyllis Lei Furumoto. I received my First Degree initiation in June 2013, and my Second Degree initiation in October 2014. Additional training includes the Northwest Reiki Association’s one-day Volunteer Training in a Medical Setting in June 2015, and Pamela Miles’ three-day Reiki & Medicine Intensive in August 2018. I have logged hundreds of hours in private practice, and as a volunteer; my volunteer experience is primarily in cancer support.
My Reiki Story
I came to Reiki looking for stress management during a time of major transition in my life. I took to heart the instruction “practice, practice, practice” and embraced Reiki readily. Within a few months of my Reiki class, a dear family member was diagnosed with cancer, and I found myself sharing Reiki with other people, which surprised me, as I was not generally a touchy-feely person! The experiences I had over the next several months—challenging, enriching, and profound—seemed to deepen my relationship with Reiki, and about a year and a half after my first class, I sought Second Degree training. As my personal practice continued to unfold, I began to feel that professional practice was also calling to me. Thus began my journey to establish Orange Flower Healing LLC, in early 2016. Gratitude to all who have helped me in this process!
About Reiki and the Usui Shiki Ryoho System
Reiki–pronounced ray-key–is usually translated as “universal life energy.” I’ve found that the words “life energy” mean something slightly different for each person. Practically speaking, Reiki is a safe, gentle, light touch practice that encourages the body’s systems to balance, resulting in deep relaxation and an excellent “base camp” for healing. Reiki treatments are received on a massage table, fully clothed, and last 60-90 minutes.
I am a proud member of the Reiki Alliance, an international community of Reiki Masters dedicated to the practice of Usui Shiki Ryoho, a specific system of Reiki practice. To learn more about Usui Shiki Ryoho, visit the Reiki Alliance website.
Why the Orange Flower?
As a child I had a wonderful encounter with an artwork: a large silkscreen that was almost entirely white, with a simple orange flower in the center. Alone in the room where the print was hanging, I glanced up to see sunlight coming through the curtains, a beam of light perfectly centered on the orange flower, illuminating its petals. I remember asking myself, Is this a miracle? Something about the experience felt important, and I’ve never forgotten it: a moment in which art, light, and my undivided attention met Mystery. Practicing Reiki evokes a similar sense of mystery for me, a sense of Aha! There it is. Reiki practice nourishes life, and even when we are unsettled, it can help us feel better about what is.
