I have logged hundreds of hours in private practice, working with people to address a variety of concerns, and I have particular experience in Reiki for cancer support. My approach to Reiki and working with clients is also influenced by 20+ years of study of the Tao, Hatha yoga, and secular-based meditation practices. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Indiana University in the mid-90s.
About Reiki and the Usui Shiki Ryoho System
Reiki–pronounced ray–key–is usually translated as “universal life energy.” I’ve found that the words “life energy” mean something slightly different for each person. Practically speaking, Reiki is a safe, gentle, light touch practice that encourages the physical body to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in deep relaxation and an excellent “base camp” for healing.
One can receive a Reiki treatment from a professional or a non-professional practitioner, and can also learn how to practice Reiki on themselves. I find it helpful to think of it this way: receiving Reiki from a professional is like eating at a restaurant; receiving Reiki from a non-professional is like dining at someone else’s house; and self-practice is preparing a simple meal for oneself at home. Usui Shiki Ryoho is the specific system of Reiki practice that I trained in. Usui Shiki Ryoho encourages longer training periods, and one-on-one apprenticeships when seeking Reiki mastery. Masters initiated in this lineage and system can become members of an international community: The Reiki Alliance.
Reiki treatments are received fully clothed, covered by a light blanket and supported by pillows. The practitioner’s hands are placed on your head, torso and back, for 3-5 minutes at each position, following a specific treatment protocol. Extra attention can be provided for specific concerns. 60 and 90-minute sessions are available. Visit the Schedule page or call 812 327 1330 to book a session. Please note the following disclaimer applies to all Reiki sessions:
Disclaimer: Becky does not medically diagnose or prescribe treatment. Do not discontinue any medical or psychological treatment you may be receiving. Becky is happy to work in conjunction with your current physician and healing team, and recommends telling your health care providers that you receive Reiki.
Reiki and Cancer Support
Reiki is safe, gentle, and non-invasive. There are no contraindications for Reiki practice, making it a unique resource for patients as they navigate the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of cancer treatment. Simple, relaxing, and often powerful, Reiki can be restorative at any point in a patient’s journey.
In 2017, I began offering Reiki sessions at Olcott Center for Cancer Education in Bloomington. Feedback from patients was overwhelmingly positive, and the Reiki program grew until March 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic meant services were paused. In 2021, Cancer Support Community Indiana began offering these support services. In 2021, 85% of participants who were experiencing pain going into their session, reported a decrease in pain. 95% of participants who indicated feelings of stress prior to their session, reported a decrease in their stress.* Some comments after Reiki sessions:

“..My back feels less painful and my head feels better… made me calmer throughout my body.”

The University of Minnesota’s Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing provides a wealth of information and some research studies on Reiki’s effectiveness. Reiki Master Pamela Miles has written extensively about Reiki in medicine, offering down-to-earth information about the benefits of Reiki practice.
